Healthy Hair + Tips for Blondes

Anyone else missing their hairstylist?! I'm doing my best to keep my blonde highlights looking their best while we're in quarantine. I don't have an intense routine but I'll share with you how I care for my hair at home.

The photo above was taken recently. I typically get my hair highlighted every 6-8 weeks.

Invest in your hair. It is the crown you never take off.

How often do you wash your hair? I wash it 2-3 days a week. I find that the more I wash and style it the harder it is to work with and causes more damage.

1. Shampoo + Conditioner

Two to three days a week I wash my hair with Forever Blonde products by Paul Mitchell to help maintain my blonde highlights. I start with the Forever Blonde Shampoo and add a dime size amount of Platinum Blonde Shampoo, massaging into my scalp and then the length of my hair for at least one minute. Massaging your scalp stimulates blood cells which will help make the roots stronger and help with growth. I follow that with Forever Blonde Conditioner. Since I don't wash everyday I will let the conditioner sit in my hair until the end of my shower, rinsing right before I get out. It leaves my hair so soft! When I style my hair more often (with products) I'll do a repair treatment once a week with Olaplex No.3. Otherwise I only use it every other week.

2. Brush + Blow Dry

Once I've towel dried my hair I use a WetBrush and carefully get the knots out. My hair is naturally wavy so it tangles easily. When hair is wet it is more susceptible to breaking so be gentle and use the right tools. Brushing your hair prior to getting in the shower helps! If I let my hair air dry I don't put any product in it. If I blow dry it I will first spray it with Forever Blonde Dramatic Repair and then add sculpting foam. I can not even begin to tell you what a difference it makes to use a quality hair dryer! It truly will save your hair. I use the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. Not cheap, I know, but totally worth it. You also want to make sure you're using a brush that will not cause damage. I've linked my favorites below.

3. Heat Tools + Accessories

I always put my hair up when I'm doing my makeup. Some hair ties can cause breakage. I use a headband and hair scrunchies (linked below). As far as drying my hair, I try not to use any heat other than the blow dryer but let's be honest, even if I'm not going out but I have a Zoom meeting I sometimes like to curl my hair. To protect it from the heat I use Neuro Thermal Protection Spray. It also helps lock in the curl. I use a straightener but rarely. If I do, I quickly run it through the ends of my hair only. Not the full length of my hair. More heat = more damage and split ends. Tip: Sleep on a silk pillowcase! It will help keep your hair healthy. Speaking of other ways to keep it healthy...

4. Food + Drink

Your diet also has an effect on your hair! Stay hydrated (think water, not margaritas. Sorry!) and eat healthy foods. There are so many benefits to eating clean. When you're eating healthy, staying hydrated, exercising and getting plenty of sleep (I have a hard time with this one) you'll notice the difference with your hair, skin and mental health!
